Terms of Service

The agreement between you and MeritSlate — written to be read, not skimmed past.

MeritSlateLast updated: July 13, 2026

Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and MeritSlate ("MeritSlate", "we", "us") governing your use of meritslate.ai and every feature of the MeritSlate product (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

The service

MeritSlate is an AI-assisted job application toolkit. Depending on your plan, the Service includes: Merit Scores that measure a resume against a specific job description with cited evidence; a nine-vendor ATS parse simulation; AI resume tailoring; cover letter generation; LinkedIn profile optimization; practice AI voice interviews; a resume library; optional sending of applications through your own Gmail account; and a free ATS-clean PDF converter.

The Service is a tool that helps you present your real experience better. It does not submit applications on its own, does not guarantee any hiring outcome, and is not a recruiting or employment agency.

Eligibility & accounts

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live (or have a parent or guardian's consent).
  • Keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account; tell us immediately at hi@meritslate.ai if you suspect unauthorized access.
  • Provide accurate account information, and use one account per person. Accounts are for individual job seekers; don't share an account or resell access.

Free tier & fair use

The free plan is genuinely free, forever, with daily allowances that reset at midnight UTC:

  • 2 free Merit Scores per day, run on the same scoring engine paid plans use.
  • 1 free ATS-clean PDF conversion per day with the free converter tool.
  • A free resume library with a limited number of slots.

Free quotas exist so everyone gets real value at no cost — they are not an invitation to automate against. Attempting to circumvent quotas (rotating accounts, fingerprints, IP addresses, or devices; scripting or bulk-submitting requests; or defeating our bot checks) is a violation of these Terms, and we may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that do it.

Plans, billing & renewal

All payments are processed by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Prices are shown at checkout in USD; taxes may apply depending on your location. Current plans:

Day Pass — $6.99, one-time

Unlocks every Pro feature for 24 hours from purchase. A single charge that never auto-renews.

Monthly Pro — $29.99 per month, auto-renews

A monthly allowance sized for an active search (about 20 tailored applications and 2 AI interviews per month). Renews automatically each month until you cancel — you can cancel at any time.

Campaign Pass — $59.99, one-time, 90 days

A full job-search campaign: about 65 tailored applications, 5 AI interviews, and an expanded resume library for 90 days from purchase. A single charge that never auto-renews.

Top-ups — one-time credit packs

Extra tailored applications or AI interviews on top of a plan. Credits never expire and are consumed only after your plan allowance; an active plan is required to use them.

Plan allowances are per account (not per resume) and are metered as described on the pricing section. Allowances are sized generously for real human job searches; we may enforce metering exactly as published. If a subscription charge fails, we keep your access while the payment is retried before any downgrade — you won't lose access over a single declined card.

Cancellation

  • Monthly Pro can be canceled at any time from the billing portal in your account (or by emailing us) — no retention hoops. Cancellation stops future renewals; your access continues through the period you already paid for, and no further charges are made. The current period isn't refunded or pro-rated — you keep full access until it ends.
  • Day Pass, Campaign Pass, and top-ups are one-time purchases — they never renew, so there is nothing to cancel. Passes simply expire at the end of their window (24 hours or 90 days).

Refunds & chargebacks

All sales are final, and all payments are non-refundable. Because the Service delivers its results the moment you pay, we don't offer refunds, credits, or pro-rated returns for a Day Pass, a Campaign Pass, a Monthly Pro charge, or top-up credits — whether or not the allowance was used, and whatever the outcome of your job search.

Try everything before you pay

Every paid feature is one you can evaluate for free first. The free plan runs the same scoring engine that paid plans use — 2 Merit Scores and 1 ATS-clean conversion every day, for as long as you like — so you can decide whether MeritSlate is right for you before spending a cent. We keep prices low and this policy simple instead of building the cost of returns into everyone's price.

By completing a purchase you ask us to begin providing the paid Service to you immediately, and you acknowledge that your access starts right away — which is why a purchase can't be withdrawn once it's made. If you don't want immediate access on these terms, don't complete the purchase.

A few narrow exceptions still apply. We will always issue a refund where one is required by applicable law, and we may — entirely at our discretion — reverse a clear duplicate or accidental charge, or a charge for a Pro feature that a confirmed fault on our side stopped you from using at all. If anything on your bill looks wrong, email hi@meritslate.ai and we'll look into it — reaching us is always faster, and surer, than a card dispute.

When a payment is refunded for any reason, what it paid for is revoked: a refunded pass or subscription ends the associated paid access, and a refunded top-up removes the credits it granted. A chargeback or payment dispute is treated as a strong fraud signal — it immediately revokes the associated paid access and credits, and may lead to account suspension.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to fabricate credentials, degrees, employment history, or anything else designed to deceive an employer. The product is built to sharpen the truth, not invent it.
  • Upload content you have no right to use, or content that is unlawful, malicious, or infringes anyone's rights.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the Service; access it with bots or automated scripts; or probe, overload, or interfere with its infrastructure or security measures.
  • Reverse engineer, copy, resell, sublicense, or white-label the Service or its scoring engine, or use output to build a competing resume-scoring dataset or product.
  • Circumvent quotas, metering, anti-abuse systems, or plan restrictions, or share one account across multiple people.

AI-generated content

Scores, rewrites, cover letters, LinkedIn content, and interview feedback are generated with AI. We engineer the pipeline for honesty — the rewriter is instructed never to invent roles, skills, dates, or metrics, and the scoring engine must cite evidence for every number — but AI output can still contain errors, awkward phrasing, or claims you don't want to make.

What this means in practice

Everything the AI produces is a draft. Review every line before you send it to an employer — you are responsible for the accuracy of the applications you submit, and you own that final content.

No outcome is guaranteed. A high Merit Score is a strong signal, not a promise of interviews, offers, or employment.

The Service provides tools and information, not professional career, legal, or hiring advice.

Your content & intellectual property

Your content stays yours. You retain all rights to the resumes, job descriptions, and other material you upload, and to the outputs generated from your content — use them anywhere, for any purpose, with no attribution required. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, and transmit your content solely to operate the Service for you (for example, sending resume text to our AI providers to generate your results), as described in the Privacy Policy. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the limited retention windows described there.

The Service stays ours. MeritSlate and its scoring engine, software, design, and branding are our intellectual property. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the Service — not any ownership in it. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation.

Third-party services

Parts of the Service depend on third parties: payments run through Dodo Payments, voice interviews use real-time speech infrastructure, AI generation uses third-party model providers, and the optional Gmail connection uses Google's APIs under Google's own terms. Your use of those integrations is also governed by the relevant third party's terms, and features that depend on a third party may be affected by changes or outages on their side.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that scores mirror any particular employer's systems exactly, or that using the Service will result in interviews, offers, or employment.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, opportunities, or data arising from your use of the Service; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose or fifty US dollars ($50). Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Termination

  • By you: stop using the Service at any time, or permanently delete your account (and all its data) from Account settings — the erasure flow is described in the Privacy Policy.
  • By us: we may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms — including fraud, abuse of free quotas, or chargeback abuse — or where required by law. Where reasonable, we'll warn you first.
  • On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (your content rights, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.

Changes to the Service or these Terms

We improve the Service continuously and may add, change, or remove features. We may also update these Terms; when we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll give notice by email or in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't, stop using the Service and, if you have an active subscription, cancel it.

Governing law & disputes

MeritSlate is an online service offered globally over the internet, not tied to any single country. These Terms, and any dispute arising out of them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which MeritSlate is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute not first resolved informally will be handled by the competent courts of that jurisdiction — except where the law of your own country of residence grants you mandatory consumer protections or a mandatory forum, which remain unaffected.

Before starting any formal proceeding, please email us at hi@meritslate.ai — almost everything gets resolved that way, and we'd always rather fix a problem than litigate it.
